Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) As officials continue trying to find the best way to boost local business, one group meant to do just that says it's being underutilized.

The group called SCORE is a nationwide non-profit dedicated to helping small businesses succeed.

And there's a chapter right in Binghamton.

They offer free confidential mentoring sessions to small businesses in the area throughout the month.

But officials Action News spoke with at Tuesday's meeting said they're surprised that not as many people take advantage of SCORE as they expect.

"We share our business expertise with those businesses and coach them along so that whatever issues they may encounter we're able to help them solve or overcome those issues and continue to be successful as businesses," said Bill Ritter, SCORE's regional director.
