Whitney Point, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Seniors learned from Broome County officials and local experts about different ways to be safe inside and outside the home.

Sheriff's deputies showed seniors how to adjust their mirrors and back out safely from parking space at the Northern Broome Senior Center.

Christine Muss from the Broome County Health Department said this is the third time they've held a safety day in a senior center since the program began last year.

"If they walk away learning something that's going to keep them safe, then we've done our job.," Muss said.

The day also included presentations on how to stay safe with medications and a K-9 demonstration.

Joann Birmingham from Binghamton said it's great to have such a complete program visit.

"The fact that it's available and you can do it at one location, have your car checked, make sure your mirrors are in the right position," Birmingham said. "I mean seeing the police dog, I've never been this close to a K-9 in my life."

The county plans to bring safety day to other senior centers in Broome County.
