Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) After three days of collaboration, a national organization focused on hearing health celebrated their hard work.
Sertoma International held their regional convention at the Doubletree in downtown Binghamton.
The organization's name is an acronym, standing for "service to man kind."
Members focus on spreading awareness about the dangers of noise induced hearing loss.
"Over 50 million people in the United States suffer some form of hearing loss in at least one ear," President of Sertoma Tim Hazel said. "And with technology today and all the ear buds and the iPods and all the stuff that people put in their ears, it's becoming an increasing problem."
The organization started in 1912.
They currently have a national fundraiser called "Celebrate Sound Don't Walk in Silence."
