Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Broome County Executive Debbie Preston announces thousands of dollars in space savings.

The county acquired the 27,000 square foot facility, formally the site of Ramp Industries through foreclosure.

The site will now be used to store county records and machinery that they are required to keep by law.

Preston said the expected savings will be around $100,000 annually.

The county is currently leasing space at two separate sites that are privately owned in Vestal.

"We are required to keep these important records and outside the county office building we have over 12,000 boxes of records, but we most maintain these records at a low price to our tax payers," said Preston (R).

The county has records dating back to 1806, including election records, legislative minutes, and local laws among others.

The move will begin next month.
