Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Students at Chenango Bridge Elementary School took over the stage reciting poems for the rest of their classmates and family.
Students in grades fourth through sixth spent the past several weeks memorizing one of their favorite poems.
Two students from each class were picked to perform on stage in front of three judges.
"It's important right now especially with all the testing going on that the arts aren't lost," said fourth grade teacher Carrie Vesci, "It's something that we've traditionally done at Chenango Valley, we embrace the arts, whether it's the fine arts, or dance, or the performing arts."
They had to recite a published poem of their choice. Students were encouraged to dress up, use props, and to have confidence on stage.
"My favorite part was when I fainted, like in the poem," said fourth grader Emily Goodstal, "That was probably my favorite part because I got to pretend I fainted."
The Judges, including Chenango Valley Superintendent David Gill, picked two winners to move on to the county-wide poetry recital in April.
