Swimming in a salt water pool
Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's getting colder outside, but a local gym wants you to start swimming in their new salt water pool. The Riverwalk Athletic Club debuted their salt water pool earlier this week. They changed their chlorine-based pool after hearing complaints from patrons. The change has lots of benefits for swimmers and it also cuts down on costs. "No longer do we have the bleaching out of the swimming suits, the harsh irritation of the skin, that strong chlorine smell that you're used to around a pools, so it really made a big impact," said General Manager of the Riverwalk Athletic Club Kristina DelViscio. The salt water sanitizes the pool, without the harsh effects from chlorine. "If you imagine when you clean out your contact lenses, you use a saline solution, so this is exactly that same idea," DelViscio said. "You're disinfecting the same way, it's just through the chemical process that the chlorine is filtered out." It's the only salt water pool in the area. For more information on the pool, click here.
