Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Excitement and tears follow as class of 2017 moves into Binghamton University.
A day before the presidential visit, more than 3,000 freshman settled in to their new homes on campus for the first time.
Thursday was the first move-in day for students at Binghamton University. It's the only day specially reserved for just the freshman class.
More than 1,500 staff and student volunteers were working to make the transition as easy as possible.
Students and their parents say were very pleased with the process.
Parent Steve Barrick had a lot of emotions about leaving his son for the coming school year.
"Definitely mixed emotions, I'm excited for him and the opportunity here," Barrick said. "I'm gonna miss him around the house."
Move in will continue after Friday and through the weekend.
More than 7,000 students will be living on the campus this year.
