Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) ACA counselor and victim Maria Zobniw was remembered by family and friends at her memorial at Prospect Terrace.
But in 2009, Zobniw and 13 others were gunned down at the ACA in Binghamton's deadliest shooting.
Each year since, Zobniw's family gathers on her birthday to remember her life and commitment to others.
Lubomyr Zubniw, Maria's husband, said his wife was passionate about her work helping others assimilate.
"It was something she did not brag about," Zobniw said, "But we knew, and I think those characteristics will be very nice to learn from."
The town of Dickinson marked today as Maria Zobniw Day.
Maria Zobniw's daughter Oresta Lisowsky, said she's thankful the community has not forgotten her mother.
"She was there on her day off on April 3rd," Lisowsky said, "That shows she did take a lot of pride in her work and she took the extra step, if somebody needed her help, she was there for them."
Each year, the ACA and Seton Catholic Schools present the annual Maria Zobniw scholarship to a student.
