Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Town of Union cleared another hurdle on Monday when they received millions in funding that will help them recover from last September's flood.
The money will help the town make a number of facility improvements.
The town faces challenges in receiving necessary funding due to a requirement that at least half of their funds benefit low and moderate income residents.
The town requested the requirement be significantly reduced to 38 percent.
"The big announcement is, we are going to go ahead with some of these projects that are going to be able to help all of our residents. And the big thing is we are going to be able to do some of these projects in areas that we didn't know if we could," said Town Supervisor Rose Sotak (R).
The Town of Union plans to repair the levee around Westover, install emergency water treatment generators in Endicott, and replace the damaged water treatment facility in Johnson City.
They are also awaiting a buyout from FEMA.
