Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Less than 24 hours after ice jamming from the Chenango River over ran the parking lot at the Chenango Commons Golf Course; a popular Irish pub took advantage of the frozen water.
Thursday was the first McGirk's Turkey Curling event.
"I am turkey curling right now; I don't even know what I'm doing. It's a lot of fun," said Corey Hall, from the town of Chenango.
Participants paired up to compete by throwing 8 to 10-pound frozen turkeys across the ice with the goal of sliding them under one of six chairs marked for different levels of difficulty and point.
"It's a lot harder than you would think. I mean throwing a frozen turkey on ice is a little bit more difficult than you would think, especially for points," Hall said.
This wasn't the first time the parking lot has flooded and froze, but it is the first of this competition.
"I'm thinking first annual is a very good idea," said owner of McGirk's Irish Pub Tim Ward.
Hall said it was a way the pub could make the best out of a situation where the majority of its parking lot was under a few inches of solid ice.
Ward added that he got this idea from an establishment in Windsor and hopes to make this an annual event.
