Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Vestal Police believe two men are responsible for a series of vandalism and graffiti incidents reported since October 2012.
Around 4 a.m. Thursday, officer Jack Burkhard saw a man clinging to the outside of a car door as the vehicle left the Matthews Kia parking lot. Officer Burkhard stopped the car and saw cans of spray paint inside. Vestal police say the driver, Brandon Seagrave, 19, admitted responsibility for graffiti at Harold Moore Park on Vestal Road.
Vestal officer Jordan Adams also responded and upon further investigation police discovered electronics and a small safe in the vehicle that had been stolen from the Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Police arrested Seagrave and Robert Spencer, 18, both of Vestal.
They face both misdemeanor and felony charges of criminal mischief as well as felony burglary.
The list of incidents include graffiti and vandalism at the Rail Trail and at the Rounds Coal House, Twin Orchards Park on Myrtle Street, and Harold Moore Park on Vestal Road. Also, there was vandalism at the former Ken Wilson Chevrolet building on Vestal Parkway East, damage to a Vestal Town Parks Department vehicle, and burglary of the Lighthouse Baptist Church on South Jensen Road.
Spencer has an additional charge of criminal mischief for vandalism to the Parkway Office Complex and Seagrave has an additional charge of Making Graffiti related to an incident at the Weis Market on Main Street.
Seagrave was ticketed for operating a vehicle with an inadequate tail light and while permitting a person to cling to a vehicle.
Both were arraigned in front of Vestal Justice Michael Sherwood and sent to the Broome County Jail pending county court action.
