Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An annual charity event at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open will be back this weekend. The 6th Wendy's Walk for Kids is entering its first stages at the En-Joie Golf Club.

Wendy's Walk for Kids is a local organization that aims to raise money for children and women of the Southern Tier. This is its signature event of the year.

The organization started the event in 2009 and runs it on the last day of the golf tournament every year.

The organization also donates money throughout the year, through things like silent auctions and candy sales, but the walk is one of its most significant fundraisers.

"The silent auction and the candy bars and the prize bar, we're setting up all over on various days throughout the year," says Keli Cooper, event cordinator. "All with the idea of raising money and this is our highlight and our signature event, but all year long it's raising money for that."

The organization is a not-for-profit that serves the Greater Binghamton region. Its goal is to make a direct difference to the youth in the area.

So far, $750,000 has been raised over the years for local charities in the community.

The walk starts at 5 p.m. Sunday, at the 1st and 10th tee. Adults are $15 to pre-register and $20 on the day of the event. Kids 17 and under can walk for free. Registration is still needed.
