Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Main Street in Johnson City is in the process of getting a makeover.

Mayor Greg Deemie (R) held a press conference Saturday afternoon about the future Main St..

Along with current businesses that are using the Main St. Grant, a private investor is revitalizing six buildings along the popular street.

The first floors of the buildings are being constructed to be consumer spaces, while the upper floors are being transformed into multiple bedroom apartments.

Deemie said the private investor's work and the progress of the Main St. Grant will bring this popular street back to life.

"It's growing, it's getting there, we're working on it and what's important is to make a change here so we can make more changes throughout the village," Deemie said.

Deemie said work on all the buildings has already begun and are expected to be finished in the next two to three years.

The Main St. Grant is a $457,000 grant that is helping eight business owners fund renovations to both the inside and outside of their buildings.
