Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Broome County Dog Shelter asked people to drop by and lend a paw for Make a Difference Day.

The shelter said at least a dozen people came out to volunteer for the day and make a difference in at least one dog's life.

"We're trying to get a lot of exposure for the adoptable dogs and hopefully get them in their forever homes," said Kelly Conlon, the shelter's manager.

Conlon said she hoped Make a Difference Day helped some of the dogs find new families. They're also encouraging people to donate supplies.

Bones, toys, leashes and laundry detergent were on the list of needed items.

This is the second year the shelter has hosted Make a Difference Day.

Conlon said about 120 people showed up last year.

She said they plan to continue the event well into the future.
