Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Four local seniors were honored with scholarships to continue their education and fulfill their dreams Friday night.

Each of the Broome County seniors competed for the "I have a dream" scholarship program as part of the Broome County Urban League's Young Professionals Group.

The $1,000 scholarship is given out by the group twice a year to a senior who shows an economic need and also a dedication to the community through volunteerism.

The senior must have a work history that shows community pride.

Students have a choice to attend a two or four-year colleges.

The theme of Friday's Urban League dinner was Harlem Renaissance and recipients said the event will give them the desire to move on and achieve their dreams.

"It's like a confidence booster. It gives me the courage to go out and do what I want to do and it's just a step closer to following my dreams," said Kaytlan LoCicero, U-E high school senior.

Kaytlan plans on attending the University at Buffalo where she'll major in nursing.
