Ruth Cooper Van Cott, age 86, passed away on October 7, 2010. She was born on October 8, 1923 in Newburgh, NY. Ruth was the daughter of Walter and Lillian (Lampack) Cooper. She is survived by a daughter, Ardith J. Stepniak of South Montrose; two sons, Forrest H. Van Cott and his wife Nancy, and W. Cooper Van Cott, all of New Milford; granddaughters, Sara Ruth Van Cott, currently in Waxhaw NC, and Laura Rachel Van Cott and adopted granddaughter Naomi Stoltzfus, both of New Milford; sister and brother-in-law, Carole and Charles Steinard of Woodland, AL; brother-in-law Carl Lawson of Hyde Park, NY; anf a niece, several nephews, and a number of cousins. Ruth was predeceased by her sister, Jane Lawson. Ruth cherished her time staying home with her children. She was an avid reader, enjoyed her computer, and especially playing Scrabble. She loved to visit lighthouses and collect lighthouse memorabilia. Ruth retired from Barnes-Kasson Hospital after twenty years of service.

Ruth's final wishes were that there be no calling hours or services and that her burial would be at a later date at the convenience of her family. Her wishes were that if anyone would like to make a gift in her memory that it be given to either the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association (18 Monument St, Montrose PA 18801) or designated for her granddaughter Sara Van Cott's ministry with Wycliffe Bible Translators (PO Box 628200 Orlando FL 32862). Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose, PA 18801.
