Rita V. O'Neil
Rita V. O'Neil, 85, formerly of Johnson City passed away Saturday morning, October 6, 2012 at the Willow Point Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard E. O'Neil; her parents, John and Esther Thorson; and her beloved cat, Rosie. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Colleen and Stephen Jones, Binghamton, Eileen and John Callahan, Johnson City; her grandchildren, Jason and Kim, Jamie, and Corey Micha, Heather, Michael and Shannon Callahan; two great grandchildren, Evan and Ella Wheeler; one sister, Helen Holmes, Binghamton; many nieces and nephews. Rita was a member of Saint James Church, Johnson City, she was a member and volunteer of the Johnson City Senior Citizens Center. She retired from Broome Developmental Center. No cat was ever a stray as long as Rita was there. She will be dearly missed by her family. The family wishes to thank Willow Point Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care.
Funeral Services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main Street, Johnson City on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m., and 9:30 a.m. at Saint James Church, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Humane Society, 2 Jackson Street, Binghamton, NY 13903 or to SPEAK, 351 Flint Rd., Binghamton, NY 13905 in Rita V.
