Muriel J. Browne, of Binghamton died Friday, October 5, 2012 on her 96th birthday at the Good Shepherd-Fairview Nursing Facility. She was born October 5, 1916 in Toronto, Ontario, the daughter of the late Julia and Frederick Grandage. She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, the Rev. Vincent Browne, rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Ridgway, PA from 1952 until his death in 1977; as well as her sister, Florence Kellett, and her brother, Frank Grandage, both of Toronto. Following her husband’s death, she moved from Ridgway to New Castle, DE, where she was an active member of Immanuel Episcopal Church, serving for many years as the chair of the Altar Guild. In 2009 she moved to Good Shepherd-Fairview Home in Binghamton and became a member of Trinity Memorial Church. Surviving her are her children, Michael and Nancy Browne of The Villages, FL, and Peter and Jill Browne of Binghamton; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Audrey Scriven of Toronto. She was a remarkable woman – thoughtful, loving, devout, and fiercely independent – an inspiration to her family, friends, and many others whose lives she touched.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 21 at 1:30 P.M. at Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church, 44 Main Street, Binghamton NY; pre-service organ music will begin at 1:15 pm.
