Daniel T. Monticello
Died: November 12, 2012
Daniel T. Monticello, 63, of Endicott, NY passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick E. and Mary T. Monticello, and his brother, Frederick J. Monticello. He is survived by his daughter, Amy Monticello and her husband, Jason Tucker of Ithaca, NY; brother, Thomas Monticello and his wife, Lori Monticello of Endicott, NY; and former wife and best friend, Kathleen Loveland of Maine, NY. Danny graduated from Union-Endicott High School in 1967 and went on to serve in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon his return to Endicott, Danny established his reputation as a vivacious member of the area's restaurant and bar scene, working at places such as The Red Lion and Kelly's Sports Bar before opening several of his own successful businesses. For over fifteen years, he owned and operated Close Quarters, where he was a lynchpin in a network of beloved friends, and where he could be found telling stories, dispensing advice, and watching his favorite New York sports teams, the Giants and the Yankees. For many years, Danny played a solid golf game at the En-Joie course across the street from his childhood home, and once had the pleasure of meeting his idol, Mickey Mantle, at the former B.C. Open. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his encyclopedic knowledge of sports and history, and his generous nature to an ever-growing circle of people who looked for his car in the Close Quarters parking lot, hoping to catch him for a beer and a chat.
Danny's family will receive friends at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc., 1905 Watson Blvd., Endicott on Saturday from 1 to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to either the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 or the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790.
