Dorothy Edwards, 87, went home to be with the Lord on December 26, 2012 with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Edwards, and a brother, Thomas Scheffield. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sondra and George Kolner of Dayton, Ohio, and Pamela and Robert Suflita of Endicott, 6 grandchildren, Susan, Catherine, Rebecca, John, Stephanie and Lauren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Her beloved feathered friend, Cleo the Cockatiel, died the same day as Dorothy. Dorothy attended St. Stanislaus Kostka Parochial School and was a member of St. James Church in Johnson City. She was considered a sweet woman by all who knew her. She was a gifted seamstress and took great delight in making clothing, especially for her grandchildren. With her husband she enjoyed boating and fishing and traveling around the country to Army reunions to see Gerald's WWII Army buddies. She also cherished her special visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 12 noon Friday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St., Binghamton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 am until 12 noon. The family requests memorials be made to the NYS Veteran's Home in Oxford or St. Jude's Hospital.
