Ethel Faye Buchanan
Our beloved Ethel Faye Buchanan, 68, of Binghamton, NY, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, has unexpectedly joined her precious infant son, Mark Lynn; her infamous brother-in-law, Gordie; loving step-father, Fremont Whitaker; and grandmother, Helen McCullough into Heavenly rest on Friday, February 8, 2013. She is survived by a loving family: husband of 51 years, Richard Buchanan, Sr.; two sons, Richard Jr. and Kevin Scott; mother, Pauline Whitaker; father & stepmother, Lynn & Jean Holcomb; brother, Roger Holcomb; sisters, Nancy Wiggins, Deanna DeGolier and Joyce Smith; six grandchildren, Maurianna, Matthew, Jacquelin, Mitchell, Richard and Mark; along with a large extended family and a lifetime of loving friends. She was proud to retire as Mailroom Supervisor after 36 years of service at Broome Community College. Ethel loved to see her family smile, laugh and play happily together, as well as enjoyed the planning of camping trips, fishing adventures and the supervising/sponsoring the family motorsport activities (despite her fears). She toiled endlessly to prepare the food for our holiday gatherings and always made sure there were leftovers for the grandchildren to take home. Ethel was fond of her family home since she was five years old. She took great pride in her house, her yard and her neighbors, but her greatest pride was her family which she took every opportunity to share with and care for. She welcomed all the neighborhood kids, fed them, housed them, taught them and loved them. Her spirit will carry on in every life she has touched. The compassion of her heart was limitless, the ultimate caretaker. Her absence leaves a huge void in our hearts which is only filled by our fond memories that we will always treasure.
A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Savage Funeral Home, 338 Conklin Ave., Binghamton, NY 13903. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. at Savage Funeral Home. Burial will be in the family plot in New Ohio Cemetery, Tunnel, NY. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Children's Home of Wyoming Conference, 1182 Chenango St., Binghamton, NY 13901 in loving memory of Ethel Buchanan.
