Concetta Mattia Serafini


Died: February 10, 2013

Concetta Mattia Serafini, 102, of Binghamton passed into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Dominic; her sons, Nicholas and Joseph; daughter-in-law, Patricia; son-in-law, Robert Gelo; and brother, Antonio Mattia. She was also predeceased by several sisters and brothers-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her children, Hilda (Donald) Prutisto, Anthony (Charlotte), William (Mary Clark), and Josephine Gelo. Concetta is also survived by the loves of her life, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Maria (Giulio) DeRitis, Palmina DeMenna (Italy); and sister-in-law, Venerina Mattia; and several nieces and nephews. Concetta enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and crocheting. All of us will remember her fried meatballs every Sunday morning. She spent the last 10 years of her life crocheting baby blankets for needy children for Many Arms Reach You, a local charity that sends them around the world. She was retired from both Eureka Tent and Awning and Good Shepherd Fairview Home. Concetta was a founder and past president of the Women's Abbruzzes Club and a member of Saints John and Andrew Church. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Susquehanna Nursing for the great care and tenderness she received, and very special thanks to her nurses, Kevin, Tammy and Gail.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 15, 2013 at 11:45AM at the James V. DeMarco & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson, NY and will continue at 12:30PM in Saints John and Andrew Church where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends are invied to call at the DeMarco & Son Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7PM.
