Gertrude E. Wintsch

Gertrude E. Wintsch, of Binghamton, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, June 22, 2013. Her mother and father, Emily and John Wintsch, her brothers, John and Walter, and sister, Clara, predeceased her. Known to many as "Aunt Gert", she is survived by her nephews, Walter Jr. and Joseph, and nieces, Barbara, Jo Ann and Karen, all of whom are deeply grateful to Aunt Gert for many wonderful childhood memories. In addition, Aunt Gert is survived by many great-nephews and great-nieces. Born in Hackensack, NJ on October 3, 1917, Gertrude moved to Binghamton as a young child and remained a proud resident of Binghamton's east side for her entire life. She began working at the Binghamton Public Library shortly after her graduation from high school and remained there until her retirement some 42 years later. As a very active volunteer at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, she was recognized for her contributions on several occasions. A caring and loving woman, Aunt Gert was loved by all her knew her and will be greatly missed. A special thanks to the staff of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, who provided such excellent care to Gertrude during the last couple years of her life.
A graveside ceremony will be held at Vestal Hills Memorial Park on Thursday at 10am. Memorial contributions may be made in Gertrude's memory to Good Shepherd Fairview Home. Arrangements with the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc.
