Raymond J. Schermerhorn

Died: June 23, 2013

Raymond J. Schermerhorn, 41, of Drums, PA ~~
"If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever." Our hearts were broken into pieces on June 23, 2013 when our 'Big Daddy', Ray, was suddenly taken from us as a result of an accident in PA. He will be greatly missed by his high school sweetheart, best friend and wife of 21 years, Patricia Ann (Wright) Schermerhorn, and the sons he was one proud Pappa to, Taylor 'Bubba' and Nicolas 'Baby Boy' Schermerhorn. Also surviving and missing him are his father, Roland E. Schermerhorn; mother, Patricia (Lanning) Michaels; brothers, Roland Jr. and Arthur Schermerhorn; mother-in-law, Kathy Wright; and Patty's brothers and sisters and their spouses, Dale 'Jake' and Kally Wright, Tom and Jodi Wright, Dennis and Jackie Wright, Tammy and Bill Thompson; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Dale Wright, and sister-in-law, Xann Schermerhorn. Ray was a 1990 graduate of Newark Valley High School where he was active in football and wrestling. During his school years and for a time thereafter, Ray worked on the Brink Dairy Farm, a job he absolutely loved! Fifteen years ago he took a position with the Alert Construction Co. in Ohio. He has been a dedicated and respected supervisor working in both Ohio and PA. He loved NASCAR and the local racetrack races, camping, grilling, corn hole and swimming in the family pool. His happiest moments were spent with his family and friends.

Ray's family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley, NY on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. A Funeral Service and Celebration of his life will be held there on Friday at 11 a.m. A trust fund has been established for Patricia, Taylor and Nicolas. Kindly address memorials to Patricia A. Schermerhorn, c/o NBT Bank, POB 158, Newark Valley, NY 13811. Family and friends may sign his guest book at macphersonfh.com.
