Mary C. (Kachmarik) Novak, 93, of Deland, FL, formerly of Johnson City, passed away peacefully after a short illness Friday morning, August 2, 2013 in the Palliative Care Unit at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, NY, 18 days prior to her 94th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert F. Novak (2008); four siblings, Helen Yurina, John Kachmarik, Charles Kachmarik, and George Kachmarik. She is survived by her daughter, Diane, Johnson City; son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Phyllis, Apalachin; sisters, Anna Dunda, Endwell, Florence Smelkoff, Johnson City, Peggy Cole, Seneca Falls, NY; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Beverly Kachmarik, Concord, NC; and sister-in-law, Polly Kachmarik, Davies, FL; an aunt, Olga Krizinski, Elmira, NY; and many, many, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She served in the Civil Air Patrol - U.S. Air Force Auxiliary (1945) during World War II. She was retired from the General Electric Air Force plant after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Vestal, NY. She was a previous member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus of Johnson City. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards, church activities, and crocheting "scrubbies".

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal, NY on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Father Edward Zandy will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Spirit Cemetery, Kattelville, NY. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass. Arrangements are by the J. F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main Street, Johnson City. Expressions of sympathy in her name may be made to the American Heart Association, 59 Court St., Binghamton, NY 13901.
