Geneva Brimmer Kraus

Geneva Brimmer Kraus, of Greene, died October 5, 2013. She was born in New Lisbon in Otsego County on January 19, 1917 to Egbert Laselle and Rose Lull Brimmer. She was a graduate of Oneonta Normal School and State University College at Oneonta. Mrs. Kraus first taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Welcome (Otsego County). She continued teaching in Morris and Edmeston schools in Otsego County and was a first grade teacher in Greene for many years. From a young age, Geneva played both violin and piano. Along with her husband, Walter, they sang most of their lives in their church choirs in Garrattsville and Greene. They were members of the Raymond Chorus and longtime members of the First Congregational Church in Greene. After her retirement, she continued teaching people to read through Literacy Volunteers and made frequent visits to family and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Albert Brimmer; sister, Grace Brimmer Wilson; and her husband, Walter Andy Kraus. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dieter Volk, Nuremberg, Germany; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Judith Kraus, Reno, NV; daughter, Elaine Kraus, Charlottesville, VA; five grandchildren, Ann Volk, Tucson, AZ, Anita Maria-Geneva Albrecht, Nuremberg, Karen Kraus Devlin, Reno, NV, Richard Kraus, Danville, CA, and Ethan Kissam, Charlottesville, VA; great-grandchildren, Felix and Tim Albrecht, Nuremberg, Lukas and Elsa Daut, Tucson, AZ; nieces and nephews, Glenn and Roger Wilson, Judy Brimmer Matson, Donna Brimmer Gregory and James Brimmer of Otsego County, and George Wilson, Newport News, VA; goddaughter, Dora Lee Goldenbogen, Colorado Springs, CO.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church U.C.C., Greene. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, Greene, or to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
