IndyCar Drivers Fly With Blue Angels

Racing nearly 200 miles an hour in tight traffic when one little slip up means major destruction is an everyday occurrence for the drivers at this weekend's Camping World Grand Prix at Watkins Glen.

But this is not...

Five IndyCar Series drivers got to ride on the Blue Angels' transport plane called Fat Albert this afternoon.

The C130 Hercules is in town for the Binghamton Air Show.

The drivers were aboard for a demonstration flight that included a rocket propelled takeoff plus the usual in-flight maneuvers.

Being a race car driver seems crazy enough, but even they were impressed by the flight.

"It was pretty amazing," says driver E,J. Viso. "A couple of guys inside they just threw up so that kind of tells you how exciting it was."

"Because it's a new thing I think for all the drivers, it was just very very thrilling," says points leader Dario Franchitti. "And it was a lot of fun when everybody got weightless in the seat belt, everybody was laughing at each other. It was pretty cool."

Qualifying for the Camping World Grand Prix is tomorrow at 3.

The green flag drops on the race Sunday at 1:30.
