Hillcrest, NY (WBNG Binghamton) - Last Wednesday was the first day high school seniors could officially sign their letters of intent, but that doesn't mean all of the area's college-bound athletes put their signature on the paper.

The most decorated distance runner in Chenango Valley's history is headed up I-81 to Syracuse.

Max Straneva made his decision official this afternoon in a ceremony in the CV Library.

Straneva captured the Federation Championship in the fall and finished in the top 25 nationally at the Nike Cross Country meet.

He also won his second straight section title and STAC title and will join a Syracuse program ranked in the top 20 in the country.

"They seemed like a bunch of nice guys and they're really competitive and we all had the same goals in mind of trying to win a national championship and everything and they're in the right direction so I wanted to be a part of that," says Max.

Max says he chose Syracuse over Binghamton and Marist.
