Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) - Hard to believe with snow on the ground, but the Bearcat softball team begins its season this weekend at a tournament in Georgia.
On Monday, first-year coach Michelle Burrell officially met the media.
The 1997 Owego Free Academy graduate comes to BU after winning 70-percent of her games in a four-year stretch at Rochester.
Burrell takes over a Bearcat program that has won only 7 of 62 conference games the past three seasons.
The biggest announcement today was plans for a new multi-million dollar softball complex on campus.
Construction is scheduled to begin next Spring and is tentatively planned for completion in 2012.
This year's team was picked to finish last in the conference.
"Although we have the losses, we're still there and we're still competing with the best of them and making the top four to go to the conference is not that out of our league," says redshirt sophomore infielder and Union-Endicott graduate Briana Andrews. "We can definitely do that and that's going to be our goal this season."
The home opener is March 31st against Siena.
