Seton Catholic Central junior Molly Martin has followed in her families footsteps. Her older brothers, Joe and Jon Martin, were basketball players at Seton, and former academic all-stars. That's quite a legacy for her follow.

"I don't think its about the pressure," said Martin. "I think its just they've taught me to strive to be my best and to really set the bar high and just keep working towards the best I can be."

On the basketball court, Martin is at her best when she's setting up her teammates. However, her favorite part of basketball is playing defense. That fits right into the team's philosophy of turning defensive pressure into easy offensive baskets.

"I think just the satisfaction of knowing maybe I helped a teammate score, help our team win," said Martin. "They say defense wins championships so I think that's a big part of our game and that's what we need to do."

"I don't think Molly realizes she is in the spotlight when she is defending the best player or running the show as a point guard and I'm ok with that because I don't want the pressure on her but she does a great job at both," said Colleen Jayne, Seton's head coach.

In the classroom, she's a high 90s student who has a love for science, and hopes to turn that into a career in the medical field.

An A student with a strong basketball IQ, and a player that puts her team first, that's why Molly Martin is this week's Academic all-star.
