Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton University Director of Athletics Patrick Elliott announced on Tuesday that Stephanie Allen has been named the University’s head women’s lacrosse coach. Allen served as the interim coach for the 2013 season and has been with the Bearcats program for six years.

“Stephanie brings a wealth of experience at the Division I level as a coach and as a former Division II student-athlete,” Elliott said. “She has demonstrated that her vision, knowledge and commitment to student-athlete welfare will guide the women’s lacrosse program as we move forward.”

Allen, a Columbus, Ohio native, took over the head coaching reigns in January and promptly produced BU’s first-ever first team all-conference player and two more all-rookie selections in 2013. Her passionate, mentoring leadership model served to quickly unite the Bearcats, who made significant strides on and off the field. Binghamton knocked off Vermont in a thrilling 9-8 game and came within one win of contending for a postseason berth in the America East. Allen also coached the program’s first-ever Under Armour/IWLCA North-South All-Star, Katherine Hunsberger.

As an assistant coach, Allen recruited an ESPN top-50 recruit and played a key role in the development of Binghamton’s first two-time America East all-conference selection, defender Siobhan Menz in 2009 and 2010. As the program’s academic liaison, Allen steered the 2011 squad to the top GPA in the America East for women’s lacrosse.

“I would like to thank Patrick Elliott and Binghamton University for giving me this opportunity, for which I am incredibly grateful,” Allen said. “I am excited to continue leading this outstanding group of young women and growing our women’s lacrosse program. I think Pat and the committee saw that my vision for this program parallels the high expectations and standards of our athletics department and this University. I look forward to what the future holds for Binghamton women’s lacrosse.”

Prior coming to Binghamton in 2007, Allen was the inaugural head coach at Presbyterian College (S.C.), where she built an NCAA Division I program from the ground level in four years at the helm.

She graduated from Limestone College in 2003, earning a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and studio art. Allen then earned her master’s degree in sports management from SUNY Cortland in 2010.

At Limestone, Allen was a captain and four-year starting midfielder.

Allen has been very active throughout campus and in the community. She served as the Director of the Broome County Girls Lacrosse Club and Youth League from 2007-2012 and currently sits on the Section IV Board of Women’s Lacrosse Officials, helping grow the sport throughout the Binghamton area. She is a member of the Women In Sports and Events (WISE) organization and was featured on their website this past September in the Member Spotlight segment. Allen also recently served on the University’s Presidential Yield Task Force Committee and has shared her expertise as a member of the Celebrating Women’s Athletics Committee.

She will welcome back 15 returning players for the 2014 season.
