Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton Senators defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers tonight, 6-1, to extend their winning streak to six games. Shots on goal favored Binghamton, 44-36.
Binghamton struck early in the first period as defenseman Eric Gryba scored his first goal of the season at 2:38. Mark Borowiecki and Jean-Gabriel Pageau were credited with the assists. Forward Cole Schneider gave the B-Sens a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission with help from Tyler Eckford and Pageau at 18:43.
The Sound Tigers were kept quiet during the second period as the B-Sens controlled the scoring. Forward Derek Grant, assisted by David Dziurzynski, put one past Bridgeport goaltender Kevin Poulin at 2:50. Captain Andre Benoit followed suit at 8:38 with assists by Mike Hoffman and Pat Wiercioch. Anders Nilsson would then take over in net for Bridgeport after four unanswered goals but wasn't able to stop Schneider's second goal of the game at 17:47 with helpers from Mika Zibanejad and Gryba.
The B-Sens carried the commanding 5-0 lead over the Sound Tigers into the third as Gryba netted his second goal of the game - this time capitalizing on a power play opportunity - at 3:01. Mark Stone and Zibanejad received the assists. Bridgeport managed to add a goal of their own when forward Brandon DeFazio beat Robin Lehner at 14:00 with help from Jason Clark and Jon Landry. Binghamton would come away with a 6-1 victory, extending their winning streak to six straight games.
Lehner recorded his eighth win of the season in net for Binghamton by stopping 35 of 36 shots. Poulin came away with the nod as both he and Nilsson allowed a combined six goals on 36 shots.
The B-Sens will return to action on Friday, November 30 as they travel to Glens Falls Civic Center to face the Adirondack Phantoms at 7:00 P.M.
