Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) In their first exhibition match up, the Binghamton Senators win in a shoot out.
The Senators took on the Hershey Bears at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Wednesday night.
The Senators started out strong, Tyler Eckford gets the first goal from a wrister that snuck it's way past Bear's goalie, Philipp Grubauer.
At the end of the first period, the Senators gained another goal and held the lead 2-0.
Later in the game, Hershey's Barry Almeida gets a shot off from the face off circle and gets it in, helping the Bears come back into the game.
At the end of the regular three period play, the Bears and Senators are tied at 3.
Fast forward the end of the scoreless over time 4th period, this exhibition match heads to a shoot out.
B-Sens got all three of their shots in the shoot out, the winning goal by Jean-Gabriel Pageau.
The Senators win 4-3.
Pageau said, "I think it's a great win for the team, I had a good opportunity to play with good players, coach had a lot of confidence in me on the ice and I enjoyed the moment."
After a stressful training and even punches thrown between teammates at their scrimmage, this game was just what the B-Sens needed to lift their spirits.
After the game, head coach, Luke Richardson said, "(The team morale is) Great. It's still early and I think we are very excited as a group to be back playing hockey. So I think we want to utilize that excitement and put it into our game. I think we played really well in the first half, we got a little tired in the second half we made some mental mistakes. All in the end, the guys are smiling now they're really happy with the win, and we're just going to build off that."
The Senators head to Hershey this Friday for a re-match with the Bears.
The Bears will be back at Veterans Memorial Arena on October 19th to take on the B-Sens in regular season play.
