Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) After losing to the Toronto Marlies in a shootout last Sunday the B-Sens brought nothing but fire Friday as they blanked the Whale, 3-0 to earn their third shutout of the season, first at home.
The B-Sens scored just 56 seconds into the opening period as Frederik Claesson tallied his second goal of the year courtesy of Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Corey Cowick. Claesson’s goal would conclude the scoring for the first.
The second period proved to be a wash for both teams as neither was able to put the puck into the net. Binghamton received a 5-on-3 power play with just 2:38 remaining in the middle frame, but failed to capitalize returning to the locker room for the second intermission with the same 1-0 lead.
Chris Wideman gave the B-Sens a comfortable 2-0 lead after scoring his first American Hockey League goal with 2:39 remaining in the third period. Shane Prince and Brett Lebda earned the helpers. Binghamton would stretch the lead to three after Wacey Hamilton scored the empty netter just 47 seconds after Wideman’s tally.
Nathan Lawson started in net for Binghamton, making 34 saves on 34 shots to earn his fifth victory and first shutout of the season. Cameron Talbot tended goal for Connecticut and came away with the loss after stopping 35 of 37 shots.
