Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) After a so-so season last year, the Binghamton University women's basketball team cannot wait to get back on the court.
Wednesday, they held their media day at Binghamton University.
Bearcats' head coach, Nicole Scholl, has a mix between old and new in her squad this year, there are 5 new freshman and a new assistant coach.
For the freshman it's a new and exciting time experiencing all that a division 1 sport has to offer, and for the upper class man, it's a chance to teach the new players and be a better team than last year.
Junior guard, Jasbriell Swain says, "they don't know what last year was like, so they don't have to worry about last year. They are coming in hungry. And when I tell you that they are hungry, Morgan Murphy is a beast on the boards, Kim has a great shot, Candace is just athletic, she's a freak when it comes to being athletic. And I feel like a lot of people don't know them. Yeah they are going to make mistakes early on, but its not about how you start the season, it's how you finish. They are picking up on things fast enough to be able to be a force to recon with when the season starts."
Head coach, Nicole Scholl agrees saying, "it's exciting. Especially with this group being so different than what we've had for the last couple of years. You'll see a lot of new faces out there. The energy level is there. This group is really communicating, working hard, coming in and holding each other accountable every day. This group has been able to challenge one another, which I really enjoy watching them practice. They just want to improve, they just want to get better, and be successful this year."
The Bearcats play Mansfield in an exhibition match on November 6 at home and then travel to St Bonaventure on the 10 for their first game of the season.
