Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It was a great year for the Binghamton University softball team. In the first year in their new home, the Bearcats finished second in the conference. And will host the America East tournament.
The Bearcats opening round opponent will be third seeded Hartford.
A team it beat twice this season.
The Bearcats have won 10 of it's last 13 games.
And they hope that momentum, and playing in front of the home crowd, will help boost them to a tournament title and a berth in the NCAA tournament.
"We definitely, I think we play good at home and I think we're definitely confident right now and I think it we know we can limit extra opportunities and limit the mistakes, we'll give ourselves a good shot in any game we play," says coach Michelle Burrell.
"I think it's awesome. I think it brings a lot of energy to our team to protect our house and whatnot so I think that having a shot at the title here is a good opportunity for us," says pitcher Demi Laney.
The Bearcats will play their first game of the double elimination tournament on Thursday afternoon at 3:30.
Win or lose, the Bearcats will play on Friday.
The championship game is scheduled for Saturday.
