Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's starting to become a trend in Section IV, and that's exactly what the Wagner College football team hoped for when they started recruiting the area. On Wednesday, a fourth player in the last two years signed to play for the Seahawks.
Johnson City's Ricky Balles signed his letter of intent to play at Wagner next season. At JC he played quarterback and wide receiver, combining for 65 touchdowns in three years. He was also named the WBNG Class B Quarterback of the Year this past season.
Despite all those scores, he says the biggest celebration so far is for this moment.
"It's really exciting, it's something I've been thinking of since I was a little boy, you know what I mean," said Balles. "Growing up, wanting to play Division 1 football, and just to see my dreams come true is really satisfying."
Balles said he's spoken with U-E's Lucas DePofi, who also signed with Wagner this year. He added, it's a recruiting pipeline that he hopes continues.
Wagner's associate head coach Jason Houghtaling is a graduate of Windsor High School. Balles said Houghtaling played a big part in his decision to play for the Seahawks.
