Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton University men's basketball team was picked seventh in the nine team America East on Wednesday. The Bearcats are ahead of both Maine and UMass Lowell in the preseason poll.

Meanwhile the BU women's team is picked eighth in the conference. Binghamton finished second-to-last in the conference last year, but the team believes they can turn things around.

Despite losing senior leader Jasbriell Swain, who transferred away from the school, BU returns junior Sherae Swinson and sophomore Morgan Murphy. Both of those players garnered conference honors last season.

Those are key pieces to BU's plan to turn things around.

"I think the big thing for this team is how well we start this year," said coach Nicole Scholl. "Obviously with only winning six games last year, we got off to a very slow start. I think that type of mentality, I think needs to change for this group."

"We're trying to win this year. We just want to win," said senior Stephanie Jensen. "We're hungry to win and show the community and to show our coaches that this hard work is going to pay off. We're going to do better this year, we have to."

The BU women open up the season November 5 with an exhibition game against Rochester.
