Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Cornell's men's lacrosse team demolished Ohio State Saturday afternoon to earn its first trip back to the Final Four since 2010. It's also the first trip as head coach for Ben DeLuca, who took over in 2011.
However, there is plenty of Final Four experience on this year's Cornell team, including Rob Pannell who played on the 2009 team that made it to the National Championship game. Pannell and the seniors say it's exciting to be back on the sport's biggest stage.
"To go back down to the Final Four in Philly for my third time, you know for the seniors, second time, it's a special feeling," said Pannell. "Certainly knowing that our hard work has paid off to date and our seniors are doing a great job of leading this team in the right direction heading forward."
"It feels great. I think it's a testament to our guys hard work," said DeLuca. "You know it's a major goal of ours at the start of every season, and to be one of the last four teams standing and continuing our pursuit of a National Championship is very exciting."
Cornell takes on Duke in the semifinals Saturday at 2:30 p.m. It's the Blue Devils seventh straight trip to the Final Four.
