Syracuse, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Well a little closer than most fans here in the Carrier Dome expected but in the end Syracuse closed out Detroit to win Jim Boeheim his 900th career game. A win that probably isn't the most impressive in his career, but certainly puts him in pretty impressive company as he joins an elite fraternity with just 2 other coaches. Quite a feeling for Boeheim, the team and the community.
"That's why we've been able to be good. That's why I've always felt that this was a great place to coach. Why I never really thought about going someplace else, because we have that kind of support here from the fans," says Boeheim.
"It was real special. I mean for him to accomplish 900 wins, it's real special being part of it and I'm really happy for him," say DaJuan Coleman.
"I think what's more important is that we're winning. Being part of 800 and being part of 900 pretty much means we've been winning pretty consistently," says guard Brandon Triche.
After the game, coach Boeheim was honored with a video tribute here in the Carrier Dome including messages from Louisville coach Rick Pitino and Duke coach and fellow 900 win member Mike Krzyzewski. A special moment for everyone here in the Carrier Dome. But now Syracuse and Coach Boehiem's focus is on 901, coming this Saturday. In Syracuse, Travis Eldridge, WBNG-TV Action Sports.
