Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Johnson City graduate Jerry D'Amigo is looking to make a statement in training camp this season, a statement he hopes lands him on the Toronto Maple Leafs NHL roster.

D'Amigo finished up his off-season training program at BX Strength and Speed on Wednesday morning before heading back to Canada for training camp.

After playing in parts of three seasons for the AHL's Toronto Marlies, D'Amigo changed up his off-season conditioning this year. He added yoga, spinning classes and extra weight training to his summer work outs.

The added strength and speed are things he hopes help him make the jump to the NHL.

"Obviously just play that gritty, hard game that I have been in the AHL with the Marlies," said D'Amigo, when asked what he needs to do to make the Maple Leafs. "I've got to go out there and hit, and even some of the big name guys like [Phil] Kessel and [Dion] Phaneuf, go out there and, you know, show them I can compete with the best of them."

D'Amigo believes there are some better opportunities for him to make the Maple Leafs roster this season because of some holes left from free agency. If he does end up back with the Marlies, Toronto is set to visit the B-Sens on April 16.
