(WBNG Binghamton) UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon "Bones" Jones will no longer face Alexander Gustafsson in UFC 178, instead he'll battle Daniel Cormier on Sept. 27th in Las Vegas, NV. It'll take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
On Tuesday, the Jones-Gustafsson rematch appeared to be a go, but on Wednesday the UFC announced that Gustafsson was forced to pull out of the fight because of an injury during training this week.
The fight was supposed to be a rematch of the Union-Endicott grads most difficult title defense to date. Jones was taken the distance by Gustafsson before being declared the winner by unanimous decision in Toronto last September.
Instead, Jones will meet Cormier in the Octagon. Cormier is a two-time Olympic wrestler and was a heavyweight contender before dropping down to the light heavyweight division.
Jones will be looking to defend his title for a record eighth time.
Tickets for UFC 178 in Las Vegas go on sale on August 1st.
