Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Defending Dick's Sporting Goods Open champion Bart Bryant spoke about how this tournament is one of the golfers favorite stops on the Champions Tour during Media Day on Monday.
It wouldn't be that way if not for the course, and once again En-Joie Golf Course seems to be ready to test the Champions Tour.
A long winter hit golf courses hard here in the Southern Tier, but Course Superintendent Rocco Greco says En-Joie has recovered well and club pro Michael Deuel believes they could host the tournament this week if they needed to.
It's credit to how Greco and his team prepared for this winter.
"It's hard to tell why this happens over the winter, as far as winter kill on golf courses," said Greco. "Superintendents, really, I don't think have figured it out much yet. There isn't an exact science to prevent winter damage, but I think we prepared for the worst and got through it very well."
The crew did make a couple improvements to the course this spring. They replaced the rough around the 18th green, because it had been trampled down by spectators and fans from the concerts. En-Joie also renovated a few bunkers around the course.
