Syracuse, NY (WBNG Binghamton)

Jim Boeheim made some waves with a statement to Sports Illustrated.
He told Seth Davis that incoming 7-foot freshman Fab Melo has the potential to be the freshman of the year.
Melo has dropped 30 pounds this offseason, and is expected to share time with Rick Jackson in the front court.

But to the local media, Boeheim backed off his predicitions a bit.
" You have to wait until he gets to college and see what he does in practice. See how he does in the college game. It's a big step up, but he certainly has some tools. All our freshman are guys that should be able to come here and be prepared to help us."

Fab Melo averaged 15 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game, and has been listed among the top-20 players in the big East for the upcoming season before ever playing a college game.
