Conklin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A new coach is bringing a new attitude to Susquehanna Valley this season. Middle school gym teacher Mike Ford takes over for the Sabers, looking to reverse a 1-8 season last year.

Ford takes over a team that returns a handful of players, and includes several players from a JV team that lost only one game last season.

Despite being a new head coach, Ford believes his experience in the school district and with the kids on the team should make for a smooth transition.

"It's allowed a good relationship to build between us and I think the kids are very excited about a fresh start," said Ford. "We're a new look team this year. We've got different helmets, new uniforms and hoping to start new."

"It's great. It makes a world of difference," said lineman Chris Vascello. "Coach Ford, all the coaches we have there, they're really devoted to the program and to get us going the right way and their attitude has rubbed off on our guys because now, I've never been on a team that's wanted to get it done so much and I feel this could be a good year for us with all this talent we have."

The Sabers open the season on the road against Ithaca.
