Dozens of girls from the area take the opportunity to learn basketball, from a very knowledgeable coach staff.
AAU Coach Chris Buckley is hosting the first annual Knucklehead Basketball Academy being held at St. John's School in Binghamton.
Nearly 50 girls in grades 5 through 12 took part in the two day camp this weekend.
They came from a variety of schools in the area.
Players are put through a series of drills before playing games in the afternoons.
Coaches include several division one athletes, including a men's and women's basketball player from Syracuse University.
"We're meeting some really cool people from Syracuse and it's really fun. You learn a lot especially from the older players and there's a lot of people here from different schools here and it's a lot of fun," says Chenango Valley senior Dara Degennaro.
"It's a chance for them to learn and just grow and to be around athletes that have been through it like myself and Brandon and Whitley and Richie. It's good for them to experience all this," says Elashier Hall, a sophomore guard at Syracuse.
The camp is sponsored by Knucklehead Embroidery.
Organizers say they are planning another KBA in October.
There are also plans for a co-ed camp in the future.
