Hancock comes up just short of state title
Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) After throwing a complete game in the Class D baseball semifinal, Hancock's Ryan Smith entered the state title game in the bottom of the fourth inning with the bases loaded. Smithtown Christian rallied to score two runs that inning as the Knights beat the Wildcats 7-3 on Saturday evening. Hancock opened the scoring when Eli Holton chopped one to third base in the top of the first inning. However, Smithtown Christian responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. In the second, the Wildcats got a clutch RBI base hit from Joe Gross to tie the game. Hancock state semifinal highlights The score stayed tied until the Knights were able to load the bases in the fourth. Smithtown Christian was able to score five runs once Smith entered the game. In the end, Hancock wasn't able to complete the comeback as the Wildcats fell 7-3. It was the second straight state title appearance for Hancock. The Wildcats also lost in last year's Class D state final game.
