Oneonta, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Winning a division championship is a great accomplishment.
But winning a 4th straight MAC championship was extra special for the Harpursville girls basketball team.
The Hornets, ranked number one in the state, took care of Oxford to take home their 4th trophy.
3 of the players on this year's roster have been lucky enough to be a part of all 4 championships.
Coach Kurt Ehrensbeck says the first title was special because they beat the number one ranked team in the state.
But he says this one is extra special because after losing Section 4 all-time leading scorer Hannah Kimmel, nobody thought they could win it again.
"It's really fun to experience this 4 times and to come back 4 years in a row for consecutive wins. It's just great to accomplish that," says Savannah Murray, who has been a part of 4 consecutive titles.
"These kids worked their tails off all year...practice, summer, in the fall and they're the ones that decided this and it was a great reward for them for all the work they put in in the offseason," says head coach Kurt Ehrensbeck.
The season isn't over for the undefeated Hornets.
They start the sectional playoffs as the 3rd ranked team in class C.
They'll host Groton on Thursday night at 7 in the first round.
