He started out as a JC Wildcat, but had his best season for the Binghamton Patriots, rushing for over 2-thousand yards.

Now Jamar is turning heads at the college level.

He ran for 59 yards on 9 carries with a TD in the UMASS spring game, and may be counted on to do more of that this coming season.

Smith says, " I just gotta do what I gotta do. We're a young team this year so I'm just trying to find a place to fit in. I might get some reps at FB just to mess teams up. So I'm just hoping for the best right now."

QB Kyle Havens says, " Honestly if you want a sleeper, Jamar Smith redshirt RB is probably the most explosive person on this team. He can stand here and do a front flip without moving. He's an explosive player."

UMASS does return their 2nd leading rusher from last season.
Smith was redshirted last year and plays as a freshman this year.
