Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Cornell lost arguably the best offensive player in school history, lost its coach and had a dark cloud of hazing allegations hanging over its head. That's what interim men's lacrosse coach Matt Kerwick inherited entering last season.

Fast forward a few months later, and Kerwick proved he's the man for the job.

After leading the Big Red to a 9-0 start, and another NCAA Tournament appearance, the school dropped the interim tag for Kerwick Wednesday and named him the 11th head coach in Cornell history.

He led the team to an 11-5 record before Maryland ended the Big Red's season.

On Thursday, he talked about getting the chance to keep coaching this team.

"I'm very blessed and privileged to do this and extremely excited," said Kerwick. "It has been a great process all spring working with this team, and I'm very excited to be back working with them in the fall."

Cornell returns key offensive pieces Connor Buczek and Matt Donovan next season.
